I took a small tour this weekend to Kuldīga, a nice city in Latvia to enjoy some peace away from Riga.
Kuldīga is a small city in Latvia situated in the Kurzeme region of Latvia, considered by many to be one of the best preserved historical cities in the country.
Originally known by its German name Goldingen, it has built itself up over the years to be a beautiful place to visit, made up of many different styled buildings from many different periods.
The city is first mentioned around 1242 but some believe its roots to be even older. Its history can be seen through the many beautiful town houses and public buildings that are clustered together.
With Europe’s widest waterfall and plenty of history the city is scenic, pleasant and enjoyable to visit. Sadly public transport is infrequent and takes a long time but it is well worth it. Plenty of affordable guesthouses and hotels are available at good rates in and around the city. Make sure to enjoy some of the little local stores and eateries.
So many beautiful old houses, small streams running between them and little independent shops and cafes, make this a really great place to visit and enjoy. Being home to Europe’s widest waterfall would also make one think that this would be a major tourist attraction but in honesty we saw about 10 visitors on this past Saturday. Do not forget little Kuldīga, a nice small city in Latvia.
