On 7th of November, the most renowned Latvian conductor Mariss Jansons and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Latvian National Opera to close down the classical music concert series “Born in Riga”
Latvians like to think about themselves as a very musical nation and in fact song is an integral part of their identity, but when it comes to being recognized outside Latvia for their efforts, it’s mostly classical music we can be truly proud of and some of world’s most well know performers come from this small country of 2 million.
World famous Latvian artists include The Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director Designate Andris Nelsons and his wife, soprano Kristīne Opolais, mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča and soprano Inese Galante, just to name a few.
Although this time it will be Mariss Jansons who’s returning to his home town Riga, bringing with him the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Named “greatest living conductor” by The Washington Post, Jansons works with several top 10 orchestras and because of his hectic schedule basically lives on the road.
Considering how rare of a chance this is to catch a glimpse of his work here in Riga, it’s not to be missed if you’re in town.
