Riga Flea Market season is here.
The dark winter is over and again people are out and about in the streets and parks of Riga. Some may even smile, which is often not the case for winter when many move from point A to B and they can think only of how cold it is and how not to fall on slippery icy roads. This may not be the case for kids and winter sports lovers but even for the happy winter goer over the last winters they are also, somewhat down because there was not enough snow to enjoy the winter to its full. But, when the spring sun shines again it is getting lighter and locals are happy for every occasion which brings them out of the house. And in this case, it is the open air flea markets of Riga that bring people out of their shells.
Spīķeri, a location behind the Central market and next to the river front is a collection of old warehouses that in recent years has been transformed from a run down area, forgotten mostly into a location where creative activities, museums, concerts and an interesting choice of public spacial design has appeared. A cool children’s playground is located there as well a nifty audio science installation to enjoy.
The Spīķeri area is worth visiting and there cannot be a better occasion than a Riga Flea Market on a sunny spring or summers day. Let’s hope it will not rain but during spring even rain is beautiful. Riga Flea Market will be held in Spīķeri on April 9, April 23, May 14, May 21, June 4, June 18 from 11am to 4pm. Spīķeri address is Maskavas Street 10. For more info check here www.spikeri.lv . If you have not planned to visit Riga yet maybe this is right moment to book tickets.
