Latvia misses out on Bob-sledding Bronze by 0.01 second at the European Championships in Altenburg.
The FIBT (Federation Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing) 2012 European Championships were held on the weekend, with two Latvian teams making an impression in the 4-man bobsled. Most impressive was the crew of Edgars Maskalans, which finish 4th overall, behind two German and one Russian bob-sled teams.
Unfortunately for the Latvian bobsled team, they finished only 0.01 seconds behind the third placed German team, posting a combined time of 1:50.80 over two runs. The other Latvian team led by Oskars Melbardis finished 7th. It was still a brilliant performance by both bobsleigh teams, who currently sit 7th and 8th in the World Cup.
