Fazenda Restaurant in Riga
One of the first contemporary restaurants to emerge following the economic crisis, Fazenda is still going strong and has even managed to open two new restaurants in Pardaugava and in Sigulda.
The original Fazenda opened in 2010 in a beautifully restored wooden house on Baznicas iela in the Central District. Walking inside you get the feeling that you have entered your grandmothers counrtyside house, if your grandmother happened to be Latvian and live in the countryside. Old wiring and lights, rose wallpaper and mismatched chairs add to the eclectic feeling. Serving contemporary Latvian Cuisine made using fresh, organic, local ingredients, Fazenda quickly won a following from amongst Riga’s foodies and is now bring the same concept to the popular recreational destination, Sigulda. The Baznicas iela location also includes a bakery where you can buy some tasty cakes and cookies to take away.
Hidden away across the river, in the fast-developing Agenskalns region is Fazenda’s second location. This area, where Nometnu iela and Meža iela meet is becoming the local hotspot for good food (see also our review of Miera Cafe). Sited again in a wooden building, with exposed beams and brick walls, the Nometnu version has the advantage of a narrow garden off the side, making it a perfect place to enjoy a coffee and cake or a larger meal on a summers day.
Fazenda’s menu seems to be as eclectic as its interior, mixing various international cuisines with local ingredients, meaning there is sure to be something to please everyone. Breakfast and business lunch menus are also available.
