Dance your socks off at Aristids
Named after the French politician Aristide Briand who, while being France’s prime minister, signed a letter that would de jure recognize the newly independent Latvian state and today has a street named after him in one of Riga’s most creative and fun districts – Miera Street Republic. Aristīds is a new addition to Riga’s somewhat stagnating club scene and culture, a very much needed addition we must add. A place that actually looks and feels like a nightclub, not a bar with chairs pushed away along the walls to form a makeshift dance floor.
Aristīds has a separate bar area, a chill out zone and the main floor. All spread across what not that long ago was a cheap cafeteria, the hole in the wall where you were supposed to leave your dishes now joins the two main rooms, so those having a chat won’t miss their favourite song. Look out for well established DJs and up and coming ones as well, playing all from house to techno and in between. Aristīds interior is minimalistic and dark, just like an underground electronic music club should be, but one thing that truly separates it from other nightclubs is the beverages on offer, not often you get craft beer on tap in places like this.
